How to choose a wedding photographer in Estonia: portfolio, questions and contract
Do not choose a wedding photographer by follower count or a handful of dramatic images. You need someone who can document the whole day across changing light, fast events and unrepeatable moments.
A short selection route

- Send the same brief and compare scope.
- Talk in person and put the agreement in a contract.
Find your visual language
Documentary
Less direction and more real reactions. Check whether the photographer notices moments without interrupting them.
Classic
Structured portraits and family groups. People should still look alive rather than identically posed.
Editorial
Deliberate light, posing and detail. Ask how much time those images need in a real schedule.
Colour
Compare skin tones, white clothing, greenery and a dark room. Editing should not make people unrecognisable.
Why complete galleries matter
Social media shows isolated highlights. A complete gallery shows whether quality holds from morning to evening, indoors and outside; whether guests as well as the couple are covered; and whether the images tell one coherent story.
- Are there strong photographs of guests?
- Are colour and quality consistent in different light?
- Does the story include transitions, not only portraits?
- Do camera-shy people look natural?
- Are there details, wide scenes and emotional moments?
A shortlist scorecard
Give each criterion 0 when evidence is missing, 1 when the answer is partial and 2 when it is clearly demonstrated. This is not a quality ranking; it exposes questions before payment.

Questions and contract
Ask how the photographer works with camera-shy people, handles rain or schedule changes, backs up files, defines the deliverables and responds if they cannot attend.
The contract should cover date, addresses, hours, deliverables, deadline, price and payments, travel, overtime, cancellation, rescheduling, replacement, file retention and the terms for using and publishing photographs.
Image use and publication
A photograph is a protected work, so receiving files does not automatically permit every type of use. Images may also contain recognisable guests. Agree in writing how the couple may use the work, whether the photographer may publish it in a portfolio and how guests who avoid publicity will be respected.
Warning signs before payment
Pause if the photographer will not show a complete gallery, cannot define deliverables or deadlines, avoids a written contract, has no answer about illness or file backup, or dismisses your publication boundaries. A good portfolio does not replace clear working terms.
A good final choice is not the most famous photographer. It is someone whose complete work fits you, whose terms are clear and whose presence lets you remain yourselves.
