Where to hold a wedding in Tallinn: how to choose a venue
There is no “best venue” without the context of your wedding. A beautiful room may be awkward for guests, while a simpler space can work extremely well because the logistics, team and terms are clear. Compare the whole day, not only interior photographs.
Five filters before a viewing
- Does the venue fit your guests in the layout you need?
- Can it support the ceremony, dinner, music and quiet conversation?
- Can guests arrive and travel home comfortably?
- Is there a genuinely usable rain and cold-weather plan?
- Do you understand the total cost, not only room hire?
Match venue type to the event
Private restaurant room
Best for: an established kitchen and less external logistics.
Check: privacy, menu, drinks, music curfew and neighbouring events.
Hotel
Best for: many travelling guests.
Check: room blocks, breakfast, early arrival, movement between rooms and parking.
Manor or historic space
Best for: a strong sense of place.
Check: heating, power, toilets, access, furniture, catering and building restrictions.
Loft or event space
Best for: a flexible plan and custom visual design.
Check: kitchen, furniture, light, sound, cloakroom and cleaning.
Waterfront or outdoor venue
Best for: views with a serious weather plan.
Check: shelter, wind, heat, paths, power and transport.
Small city venue
Best for: dinner and conversation.
Check: privacy, one-table layout, ceremony space and accessibility.
Capacity: request a layout, not one number
“Up to 100 guests” says little about the actual setup. The same room holds different numbers in theatre seating, long or round tables, and standing reception format. Request a plan for your layout and check routes, dance floor, stage, children’s places, service space and exits.
Walk the guest journey
- Is the entrance obvious?
- Can a taxi or coach stop nearby?
- Are there stairs, thresholds or narrow routes?
- Where do coats, prams and gifts go?
- Are toilets close and accessible?
- Is there a quiet place to rest?
- How do guests leave after public transport finishes?
Compare total cost
Time
Hire, setup, breakdown and overtime.
Space
Furniture, linen, cloakroom, cleaning, security and deposit.
Food
Menu, drinks, service, tableware and outside-catering rules.
Technical
Sound, light, screen, microphones and operator.
Suppliers
Access and rules for catering, décor, music and photography.
Logistics
Parking, transport, accommodation and equipment delivery.
At the viewing
- See every room you would use.
- Visit at a similar time of day if possible.
- Listen to the acoustics and ask about sound restrictions.
- Inspect the weather backup, not only the outdoor feature.
- Ask who manages the venue on the wedding day.
- Request a sample contract and complete proposal before paying.
Contract check
Record the exact rooms, hire and setup time, included services, payments, headcount changes, rescheduling, cancellation and deposit return. Attach the agreed room plan. If the weather backup is a reason for choosing the venue, describe it in writing rather than relying on a verbal promise.

Can the official ceremony take place away from the registry office?
Tallinn’s official guidance says a marriage can be contracted outside the Vital Statistics Department premises by agreement with the department. The place and time are not automatically reserved; wait for official confirmation.
